1998 Long Gully Estate Reserve Merlot

The current release of Long Gully wines is the best that we have tasted for some time, lets hope that they can continue to produce such competent wines.
Medium body, brick red colour. Very pronounced aroma of leather, earth and truffle, with spicy end notes. Classic earthy style Merlot. On the palate, the mulberry, cherry and spice flavours appear over a background of stewed fruit, leather and earth, with just a hint of mint as an end note. Fine grained firmish tannins, excellent balance, followed by very long aftertaste of spice, leather and truffle. Cellar 1-2 years.
