1998 Highwood Shiraz

One of the great pleasures in tasting is finding a new wine that stands out from the pack and let us say, once such a wine appears it is very easy to spot. At the bottom end of the market the chances of a great surprise are, we must admit, a little remote but it does happen. The 1998 Highwood Shiraz is one such break through. Spectacular purple crimson colour. Lifted spicy cherry ink and blackberry nose, just vibrant with youth. On the palate the flavours are very generous, mouthfilling plum, liquorice and a touch of charred oak, although the emphasis is on a touch. Again youthful vitality abounds and is supported by fine grained tannins, soft acidity and a long inky, spice, liquorice aftertaste. Exceptional every day drinking.
