The mouthfeel is pure excellence.

Glen Elgin makes a very welcome return to the range this year, for a third time in this series. The major part of production continues to be used in the White Horse blends, however Glen Elgin (relatively) recently became available as a single malt. The house style remains mellow and sweetly honeyed and only found as a standard issue 12 year old, excepting the odd indie bottling. Reportedly some of the spirit for this edition was from a wash fermented using 'pombe', a yeast used to make millet beer and first isolated in Africa.

Tasting note: Matured in x-Bodega European oak butts. Bright gold. Familiar Speyside aromas but nonetheless seductive – stewed orchard fruits (apple, pear) along side wood spices (cinnamon, vanilla), hints of dried grass and beeswax – 4-5 minutes air contact accents cocoa. Terrifically fresh Glen Elgin, fizzing with vitality; candied orchard fruits repeat in the tangy, salivating finish. Impeccable balance; light beeswax through the aftertaste. Certainly something special about this beautiful, middle-aged malt. The mouthfeel is pure excellence. 54.8% Alc./Vol. 5,352 bottles

Other reviews… Matured in European oak butts, this 1998 single malt has a nose of soft toffee, vanilla, and orchard fruits. The palate is very full and sweet, even sugary, with baked apples, peaches in cream, and cinnamon. Medium to long in the finish, with fruity oak, lingering ginger, and pepper.
