A magnificent Barossa Cabernet, named in honour of the dynamic founder Neil Ashmead. We can well recall having discovered Ashmead's wines in the mid 1980's, and the dynamic visits from Neil to our stores to promote his beloved Barossa Reds. Neil made fast cars a bit of a personal trademark, and you could always tell the noise when he was approaching. This is the first release of this wine, which is made from the oldest Cabernet vines that belong to Elderton. The wine has been matured for 2 - 3 years in French oak. Very deep crimson colour, with deep crimson hue. Superb aroma - quite perfumed with liquorice, violets, cedar, ripe blackcurrant and plum. Mouthfilling palate - wonderful ripe Cabernet flavour, with trademark background flavours of cedar, spice, dark chocolate, and spicy oak. Excellent depth and persistence. Fine grained dry, but well balanced tannins, making it an excellent counterpoint to the ripe blackcurrant, spice, liquorice, dark chocolate and prune fruit flavour. An outstanding tribute wine! Cellar 3 - 4 years. (2004 - 2005)- STOCKS ARE EXTREMELY LIMITED -
