1998 Devil's Lair Margaret River Chardonnay

Devil's Lair has adopted a future path of concentration and consolidation. Consolidation in terms of what it does best - i.e., Chardonnay and Cabernet. Concentration in terms of focusing on building the brand reputation for high quality, world benchmark wines. The now typical March rains held off until the Chardonnay was harvested in the second half ofMarch. Temperate and humid conditions preceded the harvest and have contributed an elegant and fine structure to the Chardonnay fruit.Typical grapefruit flavours are concentrated, yet fine and long. Enhanced by subtle caramel malolactic softness, the palate is enriched by fermentation on grape solids. Fine tight oak tannins quite predominant in the young wine will complex with time in the bottle. The 1998 is truly a wine in the style of 1997 yet achieves a higher degree of elegance and finesse whilst retaining that signature fruit intensity of Devil's Lair. The wine was matured in new and 1 year French barriques. Cellar up to 5 years. 13.5% Alcohol Volume.
