The marketing department is restless yet again, and out to demonstrate their importance. Yet another unnecessary label change. The result is a fuzzing up of the edges of the classic Essendon football jumper 'red stripe' in a bid to make the wine more acceptable to the Bistro set. Traditionally the Baileys reds were very big - usually described as a "three course meal with cigar included." Today, they have been lightened off and have none of the traditional character that made them a 'must have.'Deep crimson colour. The nose displays a hint of confectionery with notes of vanilla, spice, plum and liquorice. The palate is a disappointment, the flavours are short and hard. Stewed fruit, leather and earth flavours are overshadowed by firmish tannins. Cellar 3-5 years.
