Best’s Great Western Shiraz is amongst the district’s finest, however, Seppelt also have a very long history with the variety. The wine was made from 40 year old vines, grown on the St Peters Vineyard. The vintage was regarded as one of the region’s best, with good rains from winter until mid October. Some rain in December, followed by warm sunny days throughout the growing and ripening period. The wine was matured for 18 months in new French oak barriques.

Opaque brick red colour, with deep crimson hue. Superb nose of plum, liquorice and toasted oak. The palate is showing considerable development for a 1997, and is beginning to show signs of drying out. Flavours of plum, cedar and liquorice, followed by a spicy oak back palate. Fine grained soft tannins with plum, spice and vanilla aftertaste.
