1997 Penfolds Clare Valley Reserve Aged Riesling

BACKGROUNDThis wine has been produced from fruit grown in the Clare Valley of South Australia, and only released when vintage conditions are ideal, for the production of outstanding Riesling. 1997 was one such year.

VINTAGE CONDITIONSExcellent winter rainfall was followed by dry warm weather in October, which continued throughout spring and summer. This wine was fermented in stainless steel tanks, and then aged in the bottle for 4 years prior to release.

TASTING NOTEBright straw colour. Restrained nose, with subtle aroma of lime and toasted honey. On the palate the wine displays complexity of flavour, dominated by a nuance of lime, citrus and honey. Excellent length and persistence, followed by long citrus, honey and toast aftertaste. Cellar 3-4 years.
