Region: The DOCG zone of Montalcino in the central western region of Tuscany.
Characteristics: Along with Barolo this is Italy’s most prestigious wine internationally. It must be aged for four years of which two are in oak. It has incredible. A dense ruby colour with garnet hues. It has an intensely fruity bouquet with hints of sour cherry, blackberry jam and hints of liquorice. The tannins are prevalent and balanced out with the velvet fruit and an overwhelming finish. It has an intensely long palate.
Serve: Open 4 to 5 hours prior to serving and decant if possible.
Try it with: Roast quails, poultry and game.
