1997 Leconfield Coonawarra Shiraz

The 1997 Leconfield Shiraz is an excellent follow up to the award winning 1995 and 1996 vintages. The wine was matured in a combination of new and 5 to 6 year old French oak for 14 months. Medium weight, crimson mauve colour. The nose displays earthy mint aromas with some leathery overtones, which are reflected back onto the palate and enhanced by a spicy background. A wine with excellent length and elegance - however, not in the Barossa Blockbuster mould! On the palate the earthy leather and plum flavours persist. Very soft, very fine tannin structure with a hint of mint in the background. Long earthy, mint and plum aftertaste. An elegant style with 5-8 years cellaring potential.
