An outstanding new release and winner of the 1998 Jimmy Watson Trophy for the best one year old red. This wine has had a remarkable start, and that has inspired its name. Consider that this is the first crop from a new vineyard, and then examine the depth and concentration of flavour that is delivered and one has to sit up and pay homage to both the viticulturist, Leon Osborn and winemaker Wayne Stehbens. The stocks of this wine are extremely limited, and there is a price tag that suits its new position.Opaque deep crimson colour. Superb aromatic nose filled with a perfume like concentration. Aroma of blackcurrant, violets, vanilla, spice, cedar and mocha, with a concentrate of blackberries. The palate has remarkable depth and concentration of favour, totally mouthfilling. Blackcurrant, liquorice, vanilla and spice are perfectly intertwined. Superb length and persistence, supported by dry, fine grained tannins. Youthful yet filled with power and structure. A near perfect wine, capable of 8-12 years cellaring.
