Notes sourced from Henschke.

Stephen and Prue Henschke fifth generation winernakers at Keyneton, chose Lenswood in 1981 as a new vineyard site, just 5Okm from their ancient Mount Edelstone and Hill of Grace vineyards. At 550 metres, the Lenswood vineyard slopes not only offer beautiful views over the older vine country, but also higher rainfall and humidity at the right time of year, cooler temperatures to retain natural acidity, and still enough sunshine to fully ripen the grapes. The Abbotts Prayer label links together the history, religion and pioneers, of this mountainous region. An area along Coldstore Road which leads to the vineyard was originally known as Abbotts Flat, named after the first settlers. Vineyards were previously established in this area late last century. The vintage experienced a wet winter, with average rainfall during The 4 month winter period, followed by a mild dry spring, leading to excellent growth, good set and vigour. A mild late "Indian Summer" ended the cool season, ensuring excellent ripening conditions and accumulation of colour and flavour.Made from a blend of 84% Merlot and 16% Cabernet Sauvignon. Deep crimson/ruby in colour showing sweet ripe, mulberries, violets and cedar with sappy spicy hints on the bouquet. Rich intense spicy berry/sappy flavours on the palate with firmer fine grained tannins and exceptional length. Cellar 7-8 years
