1997 d'Arenberg The Custodian Grenache

An outstanding follow up to the 1996 vintage. The 1997 Grenache has already been awarded 5 gold and 5 silver medals and d'Arenberg are not shy about showing off - with 5 gold medals plastered all over the front of the bottle and the 5 silver, more modestly placed over the back label.Deep crimson brick red colour. The nose displays some smoky notes, with the aroma of ripe raspberries laying underneath. Finally, liquorice, toasted oak and confectionery notes emerge. Generous palate and mouthfeel with the flavours of ripe stewed fruits, raspberry, liquorice and spice dominant. Fine grained soft tannins, followed by an aftertaste of liquorice and spice. Outstanding value for money. Cellar 3-4 years.
