The Grenache on this site is grown on North West slopes of sandy soil which has an underlying ironstone clay sub soil. The 80 year old, dry farmed grapes produce very ripe fruit, due to the Westerly exposure and the subsequent increased sunshine hours.Opaque crimson colour, showing plenty of weight. The nose is slightly volatile, but acceptable given the rich supporting fruit. Aromas of super ripe plums, cherries and raspberries provide sufficient deflection from the volatile nose. The palate is filled with overripe plum flavours, good balance, fine grained tannins and long spice, warm alcohol finish. Cellar 3-4 years.
