Adelphi select single casks, then bottle straight from the cask at natural strength, without the addition of caramel colouring or chill filtration, with the intent of offering a unique and rare drinking experience that once sold out cannot be repeated. Recently, we met Alex Bruce of Adelphi Distillery and asked him what to expect from Adelphi’s selections, he replied simply “we like whiskies that aren’t shy, show perfect balance, and offer something unusual'.

We accept that the concept that single casks from the same cooperage, and filled with the same whisky, matured in the same cellar can be dramatically different. This might sound far fetched - that is, until you hear Glenmorangie’s Dr Bill Lumsden say that 60% of Whisky’s flavour comes from the wood, or Alex Bruce of Adelphi recite a story about tasting two consecutive casks from a well known Speyside distillery “…the first cask was a deep mahogany colour, and turned out to be one of the best whiskies we have ever found. However the second was pale and tasteless….” The combination of years of industry knowledge from two stalwarts, and our own tasting experience has us convinced that independent bottlings can offer some of the most exciting whisky experiences money can buy, as well as offering excellent value for money.

'A classic example of young whisky drinking well, delivering huge amounts of flavour whilst displaying a classy refined character..'

Tasting Note: Pale straw colour with water like hue. A very interesting, lifted nose that shows aromas of marmalade, apple pie, pear, toasted almond and sweet spice, above a layer of fresh peat smoke, with a subtle straw and menthol end note. The palate is full and mouthfilling and delivers flavours of orange peel, sweet biscuit, dried apple and roast almond, before the peat grips and takes hold with a prickle and menthol lift. The finish is long and supple as marmalade and almond make a brief encore before the peat, straw and menthol conclude the show. A classic example of young whisky drinking well, delivering huge amounts of flavour whilst displaying a classy refined character before a gentle spirit kick. To fully appreciate this whisky we recommend chewing and swirling the whisky around your mouth, breathe in some air and allow the layers flavour to unfold and build.

Distilled in 1997 Bottled in 2007 at 59.8%  597 bottles produced. Matured in Sherry Oak.
