Cool ripening conditions in 1996 allowed fruit to slowly develop good varietal characteristics. Made from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (44%), Shiraz (42%) and Merlot (14%), the wine was matured for 12 months in a combination of new and aged American and French oak. The Cabernet Sauvignon component provides flavour, length and structure; the shiraz imparts a spicy complexity and richness, while Merlot adds softness. Opaque vibrant crimson colour. Superb nose with aromas of violets, mulberry, earthy plums and spice - almost perfumed in its intensity. On the palate excellent ripe fruit flavours fill the mouth - dark plums and blackcurrants to the forefront, supported by background flavours of dark chocolate, truffle and cedar. Excellent weight and length. Fine grained tannins, perfect balance with long chocolate, liquorice, spice and blackcurrant aftertaste. Outstanding value for money. Cellar 5-6 years.
