1996 Penfolds Bin 407 Cabernet Sauvignon

1996 is generally acknowledged by Penfolds winemakers as an outstanding year yielding some of the most exciting wines for several years. Magnificent opaque crimson mauve colour. Superb lifted nose of violets, blackcurrants, spice and vanilla - a sniffing delight - if this is a poor mans version of 707, then it's certainly going to be worth the scramble for the real thing! Full bodied, monumental palate, classic firm Cabernet structure with abundant flavours of ripe blackcurrant, plum, spice and liquorice. Fine, firm, yet balanced tannins with long chocolate, blackcurrant, violets and spice aftertaste. An outstanding wine. Cellar 8-10 years.
