Blue Pyrenees Estate has consistently produced excellent wines under the stewardship of winemaker Vincent Gere. The Blue Pyrenees Estate is very much a cool climate viticultural area with an extended growing season, lasting 10 days longer than the great Estates of Coonawarra. The vineyards are planted along the foothills of the Pyrenees with North facing rows, allowing for even ripening of grapes. Rainfall is spread evenly and generally falls in winter and early spring during the growing season. 225 hectares are planted on three different soil types.1. Red Sandstone - thinly bedded sandstone of yellow to red soil.2. Old grey gravel - a mix of gravel and sandy loam comparable to the grey and acid soil of the Medoc in Bordeaux.3. Deep loams without clay. The inspiration behind the red wine is Bordeaux, hence Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc were planted - but wait, also shiraz. (which does not belong to the Bordeaux family of grapes). The addition of Shiraz to the blend is to add further complexity and colour. Opaque brick red colour. Delightful aromas of plum, spice chocolate and cedar. The palate is rich, mouthfilling and displays perfectly ripe fruit flavours with considerable depth. Flavours of dark plum, chocolate, spice and cedar display great persistence and finesse. Perfect balance with very long aftertaste. Cellar 5 - 8 years.
