In past vintage it's been a difficult exercise to distinguish between the Mildara Cabernet and the Robertsons Well. (both are made by the same company). This year the Robertsons Well appears to have used slightly higher toast oak casts, to differentiate itself. Deep crimson, ruby red colour. Blackcurrant, spice and toasted oak aromas create a very appealing nose. On the palate, the ripe blackcurrant flavours come to the fore, supported by spice, liquorice and toasted oak in the background. Fine grained tannin structure, with long toasted oak, berry and liquorice aftertaste. Cellar 5 - 8 years.

Retasted 03/08/1998: Deep crimson colour. The nose displays a hint of leather and spice with some plum and chocolate background aromas. The palate fruit falls away leaving flavours of spicy blackcurrant and vanilla behind in the aftertaste. Firmish tannins with some leather and cedar flavours persisting. Cellar 3-4 years.
