An impressive follow up to the 1994 vintage. This wine does not have the weight that the previous vintage had, but it does have very much the same range of ripe flavours. Medium weight, crimson mauve colour. The nose displays loads of ripe plummy spice aromas with inky raspberry and stewed fruits in the background. The palate has plenty of ripe berry flavours - with plums, stewed fruit and inky blackberry spice flavours dominating. The oak is well integrated, fine tannin structure and long inky raspberry aftertaste. Cellar 3-5 years.

Re Tasted 14/09/1997 - Second release which has spent extended time in American Oak.This wine is an essay about mint - so if you're not partial to mint it's best avoided, as there is mint on the nose, palate and aftertaste. Deep brick red colour. Ripe, earthy, leather, mint and ripe plum aromas on the nose with a hint of "cowshed" in the background. On the palate the flavours are dominated by strong mint, leather and ripe plum flavours - which don't integrate well at all. The wine is old fashioned to be kind, and disjointed to be critical. Long, leathery mint aftertaste. Cellar if you must - but we doubt if age will be a generous partner!
