The white label Mildara Coonawarra Cabernet was one of the great stars of Australian wines in the 60's and early 70's, but somewhere along the way lost track, and practically disappeared off the shelves. The cause, we can only guess at, but most likely the relentless pursuit of easier more commercially viable market segments - P.E. was pursued at the expense of P.H. The 1994 is hopefully a major turn around that is here to stay, and a long awaited return of Mildara to the super premium end of the market. This is certainly a wine for the serious collector and will repay 5 - 8 years cellaring.Deep crimson/mauve colour. The nose is pronounced and displays strong blackcurrant, spice and cedar aromas. The palate is generous with plenty of ripe blackcurrant flavour and a hint of blackpepper in the background, with minty overtones and a warm finish. Fine grain tannin structure and long spice blackpepper aftertaste. Bravo! Now let's see the quality remain consistent and even get better with subsequent vintages.
