Viniferous wisdom - 101 year old vines yielding a sensoryexperience which will only be available to a few. Australianwine drinkers are very fortunate to have available a handful ofvineyards still producing exceptionally rare wines from centuryplus old vines. Low yielding and certainly unviable economically- but revealing amazing concentration of flavour with very finetannins and great persistence. The 1993 Kays Brothers Block 6Shiraz is a mirror of a nation. The vineyard consists of 4 acresplanted in 1892, which produce a little over 2 tonnes per acre.Supplies of Block 6 are scarce as a result.Opaque crimson colour. The nose is magnificent and reveals it'sa wealth of aromas after an hours breathing. The wine opens upgracefully - why should it be in a hurry, it waited 101 yearsfor its turn to show off! The nose is wonderful, mulberrys,black peppers, spice, liquorice and vanilla all bounce aroundthe olfactory bulb with youthful glee. The palate is a flavourcapsule, awaiting to be unlocked. The flavour is totally mouthfilling with mulberry liquorice and blackpepper flavours totallyembracing all corners of the mouth. Perfect balance andprofoundly long aftertaste. Wisdom in a glass.
