1993 Isle of Jura Boutique Barrels JI Sherry Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)

This Isle of Jura 1993 is part of the distillery's 'Boutique Barrels' series of single casks, bottled at full cask strength. This 'Sherry Ji' edition has been finished in Oloroso Sherry butts.

Tasting notes: The colour is a delight to behold - bright orange/copper with a gold hue. Almost perfumed smoke scents mingle amongst a profoundly Sherry influenced nose - salted mixed nuts and dried apricot make for a wonderful Manzanilla / Oloroso-like sniff until some sulphury / matchstick characteristics break in. A bold, spicy palate attack finds some slightly bitter, rubbery traits competing with sweeter malt, honey, biscuit and dried coconut flavours. Subtle smoke lingers underneath. A little out of balance at cask strength. Aftertaste of dried apricots followed by a subtle bitter/sweet dark chocolate fade with a faint rubberiness lingering. Some wonderful moments, ultimately let down by the sulphury notes. 54% Alc./Vol.
