1992 Petaluma Coonawarra Merlot

1992 was regarded as an excellent vintage in Coonawarra, warmer, and with fruit ripening a little later. The wine has spent two years in New Allier oak.Opaque, brick red, deep crimson colour. Excellent complex aromas with marzipan, mulberry, spice and confectionery notes. The palate is overrun by some very firm tannins, a little out of character for the style and masking the plum, leather and stewed fruit flavours. The balance is somewhat skewed with the fine yet very dry tannins lingering long into the aftertaste. Cellar another 2-3 years and allow the wine to soften.
