The 1992 Kay Brothers Block 6 was made by Herbert's grandson Colin, representing the 97th vintage, and the centenary of the vineyard. Old vines produce remarkable wines, but alas there is precious little of them, since they produce exceptionally low yields - in this case 4 acres produced just 10.26 tonnes of grapes - minuscule by commercial standards - however, the trade off is the breath taking quality.

Tasting Notes:The 1992 vintage was considered to be one of the best years on record - The result is a GRANGE KILLER! This is a big wine! Basket pressed and fermented in open fermenters - built in 1892. This is classic McLaren Vale. Intense crimson purple colour. On weight alone it's in the Grange ring - but this heavy weight has much more to offer. The nose displays strong aromas of spice, ripe plums, blackberries and stewed fruits which are integrated beautifully with American oak. The palate is gigantic, and can be compared with the 1982 and 1986 Grange Hermitage. The flavours are super concentrated with rich ripe blackberry plums and pepper carefully integrated with the American and Memel oak. Liquorice, confectionary and spice enhance the generous fruit powered palate and glide into some fine, but firm tannins.
