Produced by the Grassa Family at Chateau Tariquet, located east of Eauze, a commune in the Gers department in southwestern France. The property lies within the prestigious Bas-Armagnac appellation, home to Armagnac's best terroirs.
While up to ten different grape varieties can be used to produce Armagnac (most commonly Ugni Blanc, Baco and Colombard), this Armagnac employs only Folle Blanche, also one of the key grape varieties of Cognac. Some of the fruit has been sourced from the estate's seven acres of extremely rare, ancient pre-phylloxera vines.
It may seem unusual to compare a Whisky and Armagnac, yet Tariquet's intenisty, texture, balance and idiosyncrasies draws strong parallels to another 'house' favourite, Glenmorangie Astar.
A thrilling, contemporary styled Armagnac.
Tasting Notes: Deep golden colour with pale golden hue. Bright, fresh, lively nose - a step away from more traditional 'earthy' Armagnac noses. Intense, lifted aromas of butterscotch, exotic savoury spice, fennel, toasted almonds and a hint of peach. The luscious palate initially delivers warm shortbread and butterscotch flavours over a layer of exotic spice and peach with hints of pepper emerging. Warm, spicy, nutty back palate. Exceptionally long aftertaste, with subtle peach and almond flavours fading and then re-appearing alternately. Perfect balance, loads of flavour delivering a gentle, warm prickle. Bottled at natural strength, without caramel colouring. 47.5% Alc./Vol.
