1986 Brokenwood Graveyard Vineyard Shiraz

The last three months of 1985 encountered 17 inches of rainfall, with January adding another 15 inches – an astounding amount of water by any measure. Happily the vintage was saved by the rains keeping away in February and March!

Deep crimson colour. The nose is perfumed, with aroma of confectionary, followed by earth and leather. On the palate the earth, spice and stewed fruit flavours are present over a layer of Classic Hunter ‘sweaty saddle’. The structure is elegant, without the blockbuster fruit flavours of the Barossa or McLaren Vale. Fine grained tannins, aftertaste of cherry, leather and stewed fruit.
