Heavily-sherried Glenrothes. The vintage 1971 bottled in 1999 used 100% American Oak first fill sherry casks. This is not the norm for this distillery which as a rule of thumb uses a combination of first fill sherry with refill sherry and refill bourbon. The upshot: If you like sherry this is the Glenrothes for you although strangely the label notes focus on "Rich, fruity and liquorice", which is certainly correct, but misses the key point. Mind you, missing this one was sadly all too easy: less than 5,000 bottles were ever produced. One only to sell. Some minor markings on the cannister, otherwise excellent condition.

Notes from Glenrothes... The sherry is very powerful on the nose which also has a touch of meatiness and even dark chocolate. On the palate; sherry, sherry and more sherry with some dates and a spicy tingle. The finish is dry, with maybe some nutmeg. 43% Alc./Vol.
