Tasting note: Racked in March 2021 as an eight year old, WHA's eighth single barrel release, and their fourth from the multi-award winning Barton 1792 distillery presents a deep topaz / amber colour with lots of wood spice before oily rye and a soothing, cool mint note complimenting the white pepper lift. 3-4 minutes in the glass draws out dried banana, caramel fudge and deep vanillas. Big, chewy and savoury with the sugars reigned in, a balance of grain and oak is achieved - the two reverberate off one another right through to the aftertaste. Mint-laced rye peaks at the finish alongside hints of banana bread, fresh oak, bitter chocolate and tingling spices. Overall, a peppery, slightly drier expression making for an appealing alternative to sweeter Bourbons. (Although not stated on the label, this is barrel #5941, otherwise identifiable by the distillation and bottling dates). 192 bottles for Australia only. 49.3% Alc./Vol.
Named in honour of the year Kentucky joined the United States, Barton 1792 Distillery was established in 1879 and continues today as the oldest fully-operating Distillery in Bardstown, Kentucky. Situated in heart of bourbon country on 196 acres, the distillery boasts 29 barrel aging warehouses and 22 other buildings including an impressive still house, and the legendary Tom Moore Spring.
