Malt whisky lovers should keep an eye out for the new offerings being released by the reputable Cadenhead firm under their 'Duthies' label. Mr Duthie was the nephew of William Cadenhead and ran William Cadenhead Ltd from 1904 until his untimely death in 1931. He was also the person most responsible for building the reputation of Cadenhead's as a bottler of single malts and rum, making this unusual release even more appropriate. Only 524 bottles were produced.

Currently owned by Nikka, the Ben Nevis distillery sits just at the base of its namesake, Scotland’s highest mountain.

Tasting notes: [N.B.- Sampled from a near empty bottle. Tasters who had previously tried this from a freshly opened bottle noted sulphur, 'pickled onion' and rubbery aromas] The golden colour is littered with debris from the bottom of the bottle, so hardly ideal clarity here. Initial inspection issues a mildly prickly sensation and detects vague suggestions of cherry juice and dried berries with more distinct fruity dark chocolate overtones. Several minutes later, dilute honey and oatmeal biscuit aromas develop. Big and bittersweet; flashes of rum like sugars at mid palate eclipsed by spices; thins out a little until the aftertaste stage which rebounds with a delicious brown sugar / golden syrup finale right at the last. A working alternative to Sherry and Bourbon casks that draws you in. 58.1% Alc./Vol.
