'Albariza' is part of a new heavily peated range from Benriach.
In the same vein as the recently offered 'Laphroaig PX', this was originally matured in American oak casks, then finished in Pedro Xinenez sherry casks. The name 'Albariza' is derived from the typical white soil used for growing grapes in the production of sherry in the Andalucia region of Southern Spain. Small production only so this is unlikely to last long.

Tasting note: Deep polished copper colour. Aromas of wet wool, tobacco and bitter chocolate, later adding traces of iodine and menthol cigarette. Cough lozenge and lanolin melt into semi-sweet vanilla malt followed by a soft, peppery surge. Ends mildly salty, fresh, dry and long with fruit'n'nut dark chocolate lingering in the fade. The PX is almost eclipsed by the peat. 46% Alc./Vol. Natural colour and non chill filtered.
