A while ago, the astute folks at Yalumba realised that Rutherglen produced Australia's best Muscats. Barrels of old Muscat were purchased, further aged and blended. This lost gem has been on the market but off the radar since 2001 when the price was set at $20. Grab a bargain before the price goes up. Deep sienna brown colour, with green olive edges. Wonderful aroma of honey, raisins and fine old brandy. Rich luscious palate. Flavours of raisins, honey and marmalade superbly married to very fine brandy spirit. Clean finish, with exceptionally long aftertaste. (375ml bottle).Other Reviews... The non-vintage Museum Reserve Muscat is exotic, full-bodied, rich, and sweet. It spent 7 years in wood, and was bottled from a solera system. This amber-hued, rich, unctuously-textured effort boasts luscious aromas and flavors of marmalade, figs, chocolate, melted caramel, toffee, and prunes. Once again, Australia proves this country is hard to beat when it comes to their fortified after-dinner wines, which still sell for a song. 98 Points Robert Parker - The Wine Advocate # 161 (Oct 2005)

The Octavius is a unique Australian wine icon. The first release was the 1988 vintage and it created great interest largely due to the nature of its barrel maturation. Most Australian and European wines of quality are matured in barriques, an oak barrel containing 220 litres of wine. Experiments over hundreds of vintages have demonstrated that this is the optimal size barrel for wine maturation as the ratio of oak surface to wine volume remains in harmony. Yalumba changed the rules creating a unique vinous experience. Using its own coopers the company produced wine barrels with a volumetric capacity of 90 litres. This raised more than a few eyebrows in the wine trade, as it was expected that the wine would be totally oak driven, with the fruit being very subdued. The winemakers at Yalumba anticipated this problem and had the oak staves air dried for eight years instead of the usual three. The result is consistently sensational.
A collector’s must have!
Very deep, almost opaque black crimson colour with black crimson hue. Superb nose – aroma of perfumed violets, fresh blackberry, vanilla, confectionary, liquorice all sorts and spice. The palate continues to impress. Outstanding length and depth with flavours of confectionary, vanilla, blackberry and cedar with nuances of dark chocolate. Fine grained perfectly balanced tannins. Exceptionally long aftertaste of liquorice, vanilla, blackberry and spice. Cellar 3-4 years (2012-2013) Alc/Vol: 14.0%2009YalPr

‘The Scribbler’ pays homage to one of Yalumba’s most renowned wines ‘The Signature’, a Cabernet Sauvignon Shiraz blend, made continuously since 1962. The Scribbler was matured for 12 months in a combination of 59% American oak, 35% French oak and 6% Hungarian oak of which 18% were new barrels.
An excellent Cabernet Shiraz blend very much in the mould of it’s older sibling, the Signature, but at less than half the price!
Excellent colour – opaque deep purple crimson colour with purple crimson hue. On the nose there are notes of cedar, spice, blackcurrant and blackberry, followed by some dark chocolate end notes – quite perfumed and showing good intensity. The palate displays impressive weight and concentration for its price point, with flavours of dark chocolate, dark plum, spice, blackcurrant and cedar. Well integrated, very fine grained tannin structure. Perfect balance. Exceptionally long aftertaste of ripe blackcurrant, dark chocolate and blackberry. An excellent Cabernet Shiraz blend very much in the mould of it’s older sibling, the Signature, but at less than half the price! Outstanding value.

The Yalumba Signature is the perfect expression of an ‘Australian blend’ using two classic grape varieties: Cabernet and Shiraz. In the Old World, these two complimentary grapes would never have met (not legally anyhow), whereas in Australia, in the absence of appellation laws, the blend was all go with no holds barred. The Signature has another notable attribute in that from a corporate perspective, it represents a 'living' acknowledgement to the contribution made to the well being of a company by its employees. Those honoured with a release of Signature have not only been winemakers and viticulturalists, but general managers and key company account executives, recognising that wine production is a team business.
Many a man can grow grapes, but few can maintain consistency of quality over the years, as well as maintaining the integrity of the brand. The first Signature was released in 1962. The 2005 vintage acknowledges the contribution of Queensland’s Jeffrey Smith and New South Wales’ Gregory Pullen. Both have a stake in a race horse called “Winehouse.” (We can’t say we’ve seen it listed in any races so far, so our tip is to hold off). Greg Pullen’s tribute finishes with a quote from Aung San Suu Kyi: “Where men are truly confident of their own worth, women are not merely tolerated, they are valued.”
A wonderful expression of the blend.
Very deep black crimson colour with deep crimson hue. Perfumed nose of blackcurrant, violets, cedar and confectionary. Superb palate flavour profile with layers of blackcurrant, dark chocolate, liquorice and spice over a black pepper background. Excellent length and depth. Very fine tannins, perfectly balanced. Very long aftertaste of dark chocolate, spice, liquorice and blackcurrant. Cellar 3-4 years (2012-2013) Alc/Vol: 14.0% 2009YalPr

Just east of the famous McLaren Vale wine region lies the somewhat neglected Langhorne Creek, a rather monotonous landscape on an ancient flood plain. Here, “a hill is something you can’t see a car behind”, say the locals. The region's distinguishing feature is nearby Lake Alexandrina which opens into the Southern Ocean, which in turn expands all the way to Antarctica.
Longer ripening periods and a cool ocean breeze, create a terrific depth of flavour whilst retaining a sense of freshness in this cool climate shiraz from Zonte's Footstep.
The fruit for this wine is sourced from a vineyard sited on the shores of Lake Alexandrina, where each Summer afternoon a reliable house-cooling breeze known as the ‘Lake Doctor’ arrives from the ocean, reviving vines and vignerons, lowering night temperatures and extending the ripening period (grapes generally ripen a good two weeks later than in McLaren Vale). Consequently, the best wines from Langhorne Creek possess a terrific depth of flavour while retaining a sense of freshness.
Outstanding value.
Opaque dark red black colour with deep dark red hue. Perfumed aromas of liquorice allsorts, blackberry and confectionary. The palate is both mouthfilling and generous with voluptuous flavours of aniseed, liquorice, ripe plum and blackberry followed by some confectionary and toast overlay. Velvet smooth tannin structure followed by a long aftertaste of aniseed, dark plum and blackpepper.
