Lot No.40 Small Batch Canadian Blended Whisky (750ml) The Small Batch Canadian whiskies continue the trend that began with Jim Beam’s Small Batch Bourbons. The philosophy is to follow traditional production methods in order to create a highly individual range of products each with its own idiosyncrasies. Three new additions to the Canadian Whiskey portfolio have arrived in Australia from the McCormick distilling Company located in historic Weston, Missouri. McCormick’s commenced operation in 1856 when Ben Holladay started making fine whiskey using pure limestone spring water from the local area. Today, McCormick is the oldest continuously operating distillery in the U.S and is listed on the National Register of Historic Sites. Supplying spirits to all 50 states and 37 foreign countries, McCormick is a vast, multi-faceted operation that retains its history while continuing to innovate with award-winning new products. To create the Small Batch Canadian Collection, McCormick’s import Canadian whiskey for final blending, maturation and bottling under their own label. The result remains undeniably Canadian in both quality and style.

Lot No. 40 whisky is produced in small batches using the same simple recipe developed by the distiller’s forefather, Joshua Booth, seven generations ago. The whisky is distilled in a single copper pot still from a mash of small grains and malted rye. Distiller Michael Booth comments on Lot No.40’s flavour as being, "A natural, unrefined taste you won’t soon forget." 43%Alc./Vol.

Tasting note:Nose: Light but exotic with some marzipan, varnish, Turkish delight, apricot (orange muscat) orange pith and milky coffee. Palate: Light with sweet spices and a light bite. All on the sweeter more fragrant side of the spectrum. Finish: Clean with light peppery rye tingle. Still that sweetness. Comment: A mellow Canadian take on things with enough peppery bite to keep rye fans happy. Rating: 77 - tasting note sourced from David Broom, www.whiskymag.com

Other reviews… "This is a great whisky, irrespective of whichever country it came from. As for a Canadian, this is true rye whisky, one with which I was very proud to be associated in the early blending days. Elegent stuff. "
Rating: 93- Jim Murrays Whisky Bible 2006.
