Our Kiwi cousins have been holding out on us. In the face of the Sauvignon Blanc onslaught one of the best kept secrets are fantastic, richly textured Chardonnays turned out right across New Zealand. This wine was 100% barrel fermented and spent one year in oak before being bottled.
If you have been lamenting the lack of classic, full, yet balanced “Chardies” then take a look across the Tasman to this Kiwi benchmark.
Bright straw colour with pale gold edges and watery hue. The nose displays excellent aromatic lift with aromas of cashew, honeycomb, delicate white peach, spice and toasty oak. Full bodied the palate delivers mouthfilling flavours of white peach, honeycomb, nougat and cashew followed by some spicy roast almond like characters. Creamy texture. Excellent depth with long rich aftertaste of roast almond, honeycomb, nougat and spice.
