2004 Kilikanoon Killerman's Run Shiraz

Winemaker Kevin Mitchell worked at a number of different wineries including d’Arenberg, Orlando & BRL Hardy before purchasing the Kilikanoon property in late 1997. His wines quickly established a cult following in the US market where wine critic Robert Parker describes Kilikanoon as “one of the most brilliantly run wineries in Australia….. thanks to the enviable talents of winemaker Kevin Mitchell.”

This is a superb Shiraz and a great example of the sort of amazing price/quality ratio that can be produced from outstanding vintages like 2004.

The fruit for this wine was sourced from a range of premium South Australian vineyards then vinified by traditional winemaking methods and matured for 24 months in small French and American oak casks before careful blending and bottling unfiltered. Opaque black crimson colour with black purple hue. Lifted nose of vanilla and liquorice allsorts creating a perfumed lift. Mouthfilling, explosive palate, with black and white pepper, over layers of plum and spice with confectionary and vanilla on the back palate. Fine dry tannins. Very long aftertaste of confectionary, plum and vanilla.
Cellar 4-5 years (2010-2011)
Alc/Vol: 15%

Other Reviews...
Deep red-purple;medium-to full-bodied, a luscious, round, moutfhilling array of black fruits; controlled tannins and oak, and alcohol doesn't inturde.  Fruit bomb, but a good one.

The outstanding, elegant 2004 Shiraz Killerman’s Run possesses super fruit, richness, and intensity as well as plenty of blackberry and charcoal characteristics.
