This is one of the finest reds that Osicka has produced to date. Located on the Eastern edge of the Heathcote region, Osicka's vines are approximately fifty years old and are grown without irrigation on gravelly soils, interspersed with quartz and ironstone buckshot. The 2003 vintage whilst being difficult, produced low yields of small, highly concentratred berries. We have promoted Osicka's wines in the past and they have all had an ‘old fashioned’ farmyard quality which many wine lovers found different, yet appealing. The 2003 Heathcote Shiraz is not old fashioned. This wine embodies the character of Heathcote terroir and uses traditional winemaking techniques to deliver a powerful Shiraz. The colour is totally opaque black crimson. Perfumed nose of violets, blackberry and spice followed by vanilla, liquorice and black pepper. There is no mistaking the generous ripe joosy flavours profile as belonging to Heathcote. Mouthfilling flavours of ripe blackberry are meshed with black pepper, vanilla and spice. Fine dryish tannins. Very long aftertaste of vanilla, confectionary and blackberry.
