A superb Pinot Noir displaying both power and elegance. Crops were reduced to around 1 tonne per acre which accounts for the excellent flavour profile of this wine. Semi translucent crimson colour with crimson mauve hue. Superb lifted nose, showing varietal character, spice, black cherry, violets and strawberry jam. Mouthfilling palate – explosive power wave. Flavours of spice, black cherry and liquorice over a subtle oak background. Silky texture. Very long aftertaste of black cherry, strawberry and spice.

Ata Rangi is regarded as one of the New Worlds leading producers of Pinot Noir and whilst we haven't yet tasted the 2003 Ata Rangi Pinot Noir, the vineyard and a number of reviewers who have tasted barrel samples, are laying claims that this is their finest effort yet. The wineries notes are as follows:- "Pinot Noir 2003 is drop dead gorgeous, undoubtedly the finest we've ever made. It is the result of very low yields (halved by frosts in the spring of 2002) combined with 20 years hands-on experience with the variety. Based predominantly on the Abel clone (aka the Ata Rangi clone), Clone 5 and the Dijon clone selections, it is classic Ata Rangi with very fine tannins and lovely length of palate. Soft, red fruits-of-the-forest, and rich, dark cherry-stone characters are balanced by hints of chocolate and spice. Please note that this release is expected to be in high demand and short supply."
