The 2001 reds are beginning to emerge, and promise some exciting drinking ahead. The 2001 Annies Lane is quite youthful still, having spent 12 months in a combination of French and American oak. Very deep crimson mauve colour, showing its youthfulness. The nose is impressive, with excellent lift, displaying aroma of liquorice, blackcurrant, spice, vanilla and just a touch of cinnamon. On the palate, flavours of spice and liquorice, followed by inky plum. Fine grained firmish tannins, followed by a long chocolate, spice, plum and liquorice aftertaste. Cellar 2-3 years (2004-2005) Alc/Vol: 13.0%RATING: 89/100 VALUE: XXXX/5
