Dave Anderson shot to International fame when Robert Parker rated his 1997 Duck Muck as a near perfect wine (99/100). There is no doubt that Anderson makes very good wine and he's not afraid to tell everyone just how good he is. At the same time, he puts in a favourable plug for his 16 year old daughter who he claims makes better wines than most of Australia's other winemakers. The fruit for Springflat Shiraz is sourced from 6 growers who are friends of Dave's, whereas in the past the wine was Estate grown. The Shiraz grapes are sourced from three different soil types , deep red volcanic, quartz buckshot stales and alluvial loams. Tasting notes: Very deep crimson colour. Aroma of spice, plum followed by a hint of liquorice and leather. The palate displays flavours of ripe plum and spice with black pepper emerging on the back palate. Excellent balance with fine grained tannins and long liquorice plum spice aftertaste.
Cellar 3-4 years (2006-2007)
Alc/Vol: 15.0% First tasted, December 2001: Opaque crimson black colour, with deep black crimson hue. The nose is very appealing with aroma of plum, vanilla, spice and blackpepper and no trace of portiness in spite of the 15.5% alcohol. The palate is mouthfilling, and delivers classic concentrated Heathcote Shiraz flavour. Big, bold bombshell of fruit with spice, blackberry, plum and blackpepper exploding in the mouth. Fine grained tannins, excellent length and balance, followed by a very long spice, blackpepper aftertaste. Rating: 94 Value: XXXX EXTREMELY LIMITED STOCKS!!!!
