We’re not quite sure of the location of this block, which had been planted in the district in the 1940’s. “Low yielding vines, non irrigated and grown on deep grey loams.” Based on that information, it is fairly obvious that this wine is not grown on the 500 million year old Cambrian soils. Very deep crimson mauve colour. Very impressive aroma of liquorice, spice, blackberry and cedar, with a hint of violets as an end note. The palate does not show great concentration of flavour or length. Plum, spice and blackpepper flavours emerge. Fine grained soft tannins followed by an aftertaste of spice, plum and liquorice. Cellar 2 – 3 years. (2003 – 2004)RATING: 84/100 VALUE: XXX/5
