Retasted 3 October 2003We’ve looked at this wine on a number of occasions and each time it has failed to excite the senses. There is nothing wrong with the wine technically, it just seems to lack palate flavours and time is not helping out! Tasting Note: Very deep crimson colour. The nose displays aroma of plum and spice, quite appealing and nearly perfumed. On the palate, flavours of plum, spice and liquorice emerge. Fine dry tannins. The structure is tight with tannins persisting onto the aftertaste. Cellar 3-4 years (2006-2007) Alc/Vol: 14.0% RATING: 88/100 VALUE: XXX/5
This wine received very high accolades during a consumer tasting held in Melbourne recently, however, on the night of the Graveyard tasting, the Heathcote Shiraz did not stand out in the way we have come to expect Heathcote Shiraz to evolve. Totally opaque colour with purple crimson hue. Aroma of violets, spice and blackberry, followed by a hint of liquorice and mint. The palate is subdued, and relatively tight, lacking in length, with plum and blackpepper flavours in the background. Fine grained, firm tannins which run into the aftertaste. Cellar 3-5 years (2005-2007) Alc/Vol: 14.0% approx RATING: 89/100 VALUE: XXX/5
