A more restrained Ata Rangi than the 1999 vintage, however, the 2000 will evolve into a glorious drink. Very deep crimson mauve colour. Aroma of toasted oak, liquorice, spice and cherries, rather subdued at the moment, but will build. The palate is mouthfilling, with flavours of spice, dark cherries and ripe strawberries. The Pinot powerwave is emerging, giving the palate excellent depth and complexity of flavour, with more to come over time. Perfect balance, velvet smooth tannins, followed by exceptionally long aftertaste of cherry, liquorice and toasted oak. Cellar 4 – 5 years. (2005 – 2006).
