The 1996 Eight Songs Shiraz was a Giant of a wine, and the ultimate statement of concentrate of Shiraz. The 1997 does not have the same weight or power, but it does have finesse. Medium body, crimson, brick red colour. The nose is very sophisticated, with aroma of plum, prune, spice, liquorice, vanilla and confectionary. The palate does not have the body weight of 1996, yet has the refinement of a sophisticated wine. Flavours of confectionery, plum, spice, vanilla and stewed fruit are present, and supported by fine tannins. Perfect balance, with aftertaste of plum and stewed fruits.RATING: 88/100 VALUE: XXX/5
