American wine writer Robert Parker has fallen in love with these gigantic, almost vintage port-like wines. The style is very individual, and the flavours are not for the faint hearted; nor are the severe tannin structures suitable for wine buffs with false teeth - (bed them in firmly or you'll find them sucked out by the immense tannin structure).This is possibly as big a wine as we've seen in recent years - a massive 14.5% alcohol. Totally opaque colour - the edges reveal violet and crimson purple tones. The nose displays clearly and without any reservations the immensely ripe fruit - it just rolls off the top of the glass. Blackberries, blackcurrants, with liquorice, vanilla and confectionary aromas in the background. The palate is huge - monumental in its construction. Take a punnet of mixed super ripe berries and crush them directly into your mouth and it's the same effect - and still in the background the liquorice, confectionary and vanilla flavours persist. The tannins are very assertive and quite necessary to support this level of fruit flavour. Cellar 10 years. A great, very individual style.
