2013 Tatiarra Trademark Shiraz

This wine is 50:50 blend of a top barrique from the Tatiarra Vineyard in Heathcote and one of the best barriques that Ben Riggs produced from McLaren Vale.

The rich, powerfully structured fruit of the outstanding 2013 Heathcote vintage is tempered by McLaren Vale’s opulence.

Magnificent colour displaying an impenetrable inky black core with a very deep black dark crimson red hue. Pronounced aromas of ripe dark plum, blackberries and liquorice fill the nostrils followed by some vanillin confectionary and spicy lightly toasted oak. On the palate there’s terrific concentration, richness and persistence with powerful flavours of inky liquorice, dark plums and blackberries flooding the mouth. These are followed by underlying nuances of subtle dark chocolate, vanillin cedar and spice. Firm solidly built tannin structure takes on a fine grained appearance, concealed beneath the wealth of fruit. More youthful and showing more weight and flesh than the 2012 it also has more grip on the finish. Outstanding power and depth with an exceptionally long aftertaste of inky dark plum, liquorice, ripe blackberries, vanillin confectionary, spicy oak and pepper.
