The fruit for Elderton Shiraz is sourced mainly from the Elderton Vineyard situated on the banks of the North Para River. There are 12 blocks of Shiraz on the Elderton Estate, some as old as 100 years, which grow in deep alluvial soils over limestone. Combined with a Mediterranean climate and minimal supplemented irrigation, this creates what Elderton describe as ‘the perfect Shiraz vineyard’. The grapes are mainly machine harvested in the cool of the night, at an optimum maturity of about 14 – 15 Baume. This allows a quick delivery to the winery for crushing, before any spoilage can occur. Matured for 20 months in predominately American and a small portion of French oak puncheons.

A Rich, supplely textured Barossa Shiraz without the excess weight.

Opaque black dark purple colour with a dark purple hue. The nose is quite expressive with lifted scents of liquorice and dark plum followed by dark chocolate, vanillin oak and subtle spice. Medium to full bodied with ample richness and a softly textured supple mouthfeel that has flavours of ripe dark plums and liquorice gliding across the palate over a background of subtle dark chocolate and toasty vanillin oak finishing quite spicy. Velvet smooth tannins. Long spicy dark plum, liquorice, subtle dark chocolate and vanillin oak aftertaste.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.
