Many experts consider Chateau Haut Bergeron to be the best of the non classified Sauternes. Part of the secret of the success of Robert Lamothes and his sons Patrick and Herue is the terroir. The 28 hectare vineyard is split on such a way, that part of the vines are in Barsac, (next to Chateau Climens), part are at Preignac and a large slice next to Chateau d’Yquem. At one stage the label used to boast this fact, with the words 'CONTIGU d’YQUEM'. Son, Herue is a dedicated and passionate winemaker who ages wine in 25% to 50% new oak casks. The exact percentage depends upon the vintage conditions.

Brilliant golden colour with a very pale gold hue. Intoxicating aromas of honey, peach and apricot engulfs the nostrils followed by some honeycomb and light toffee apple end notes. Luscious and thick, the palate features rich mouthfilling flavours of honeyed peach and apricot followed by traces of toffee apple, honeycomb and marmalade. Superb concentration and power with a viscous creamy texture. Very long honeyed peach, apricot, toffee apple and marmalade aftertaste.
Drink over the next 6-8 years.
