The fruit for the Alte Reben (German for old vines) is sourced from a single vineyard planted in 1899 located in the Marananga district. Matured in 40% new and 60% one year old French oak for 21 months with a total production of 520 cases. Totally opaque inky black purple colour with very deep dark purple hue. The nose displays excellent intensity with aromas of very ripe blackberry, liquorice and black plum followed by some confectionary and spicy cedar notes. Very dense and concentrated the palate delivers mouthfilling flavours of liquorice, ripe blackberry, plum, toasty oak and spice. Slightly dryish, firm but fine grained tannins. Long aftertaste of liquorice, ripe blackberry, toasty oak and spice.
