This is the third Shiraz Viognier style made by Ben Riggs, the others being Zonte’s Footsteps and Black Chook, yet there is a considerable difference in pricing. The reason for this difference lies with the quality of the fruit as well as the increased costs of winemaking associated with the use of more new oak barriques. This wine has more structure and palate length making it a worthy cellaring proposition. This wine is made of 80% McLaren Vale fruit and 20% Langhorne Creek.

Totally opaque black purple colour with deep purple hue. The nose is lifted, with aroma of violets, spice, apricot, blackberry and liquorice emerging. The palate carries the unmistakable Mr Riggs big ‘joosy’ fruit character. Flavours of dried apricot, spice, white pepper, ripe plum and blackberry emerge. Velvet tannins followed by a very long spicy, black and white pepper aftertaste.
Cellar 3-4 years (2008-2009)
