Regional Source: The fruit has been selected from our Hunter Valley vineyards, with a proportion of McLaren Vale fruit for added palate richness. Also includes fruit from the Strathbogie Ranges and Yarra Valley creating a crisper more elegant style.
Vintage Conditions: The 2001 vintage was the earliest for many years in the Upper Hunter Valley with good weather and strong vine growth. Early varieties such as Chardonnay were excellent, and picked before heavy rain, produced quite forward wines with big, full flavours. For other parts of Australia, conservative vineyard management triumphed over the weather's onslaught and hence yielded excellent grapes.
Maturation: The clear juices were racked to fermenting tanks and selected yeast added to initiate a stable fermentation. A proportion of the wine underwent malolactic fermentation whilst ageing in French oak, with the rest matured on lees in tank.
Tasting Notes:
This wine displays a straw-yellow appearance. A full, fresh aroma of peach and melon fruits with some hints of citrus. A creamy background hints at the judicious use of oak and lees in maturation. The palate is generous but not overstated, with soft, ripe tropical fruit flavours folded over a creamy backdrop. Beautifully structured and long finishing. Drink now to 2005.
